Stephen B. Luce Library Welcomes John Rocco, Humanities Dept.

welcomes the Humanities Department’s Dr. John Rocco

Dr. John Rocco is Professor of Humanities at SUNY Maritime College where he teaches a graduate course on Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick in American popular culture and other undergraduate courses.  He is currently writing a book on the Melville brothers and Sailors’ Snug Harbor.


Please join us on March 31, 2016 @ 1500 in the library when Dr. Rocco will be talking about the history of Sailors’ Snug Harbor and its archives in the Stephen B. Luce Library.  He will also be describing Thomas Melville’s governorship of Snug Harbor (1867-1884) and its relationship to Herman Melville’s fiction.   Other topics of discussion will include American whaling, maritime adventure literature, and Herman Melville’s experiences in the South Seas.

All are welcome.  Refreshments and sweets will be served.
