Steven Ujifusa

On February 26th, 2014, the Stephen B. Luce library as part of its Library Lecture Series, welcomed Steven Ujifusa, author of A Man and His Ship.  Ujifusa is a writer and  historian who has had a lifelong fascination with ships, ocean liners and significant American building projects.  His book, A Man and His Ship was one of The Wall Street Journal's Ten Best Nonfiction Books of 2012.

This well attended lecture profiled the events surrounding  the magnificent ocean liner, the S.S. United States and William Francis Gibbs, her naval architect.  Ujifusa skillfully took the audience from the inception of her construction to her now not so glorious present through a dynamic presentation of film footage, photographs and testimonies from some who had experienced her voyages.  The well crafted presentation was followed by a brief book signing.
