Lifeboat Station #2!

Laurel sends word of training off of Cobh...

--------------------------------------------

We’ve dropped anchor for training since Sunday, with beautiful views out to the rocky coastal cliffs a short distance from Cobh. Although we had originally planned to hold training closer to Dublin, Cobh has turned out to be an excellent alternative choice with nothing but bright skies and amazing views.

All seem excited to begin the new sea term and to gain some practical experience on deck and in the engine room…as well as on the Foosball table. As I write this, a particularly serious two-hour-long tournament is taking place amidst shouts of devastation and lots of cheers.

The cadets, I’m also happy to report, have been coming in to our library quite a bit during the evening hours for reading recommendations and to lounge on our comfy couches. They are savvy bunch who seem to know what they want in the literary sphere (“you…MUST have…Game of Thrones!”) but also have an enormous amount of practical knowledge. We had a lifeboat drill the other day, and they were happy remind me of the proper way to “muster.” Mental note to myself: go fore, without tripping, on the starboard side to lifeboat station #2.
